Overview

M and R Series QuikTrak™ Mowers have 7Iron PRO Mower Decks that are built to last, while delivering a high-quality cut in diverse conditions.

Built to last

The mower deck shell is forged from a single sheet of 7-gauge, 0.179-in. (4.6-mm) steel. There are fewer welds to wear or break than shells built from multiple fabrications.

 

Rectangular leading-edge reinforcement and rounded corners help distribute impact stress to reduce potential for damage when the mower contacts trees, rocks, curbs, and other fixed obstacles.

 

The trim edge of the deck is equipped with a bumper that provides extra abrasion resistance to protect the machine and the property.

 

Three 1-in. (2.5-cm) cold-forged spindle shafts are heat-treated for strength and supported by ball bearings. Deep spindle pockets keep the blades aligned, even after years of tough operation. The ribbed spindle housings are made of aluminum and have an 8-in. (20-cm) base for added strength and heat dissipation.

A folding engine guard provides access to the mower deck drives for cleaning and maintenance.

 

Spindle covers allow for cleaning while installed and can be removed without tools for maintenance. Spindle grease fittings are accessible through the top of the spindle cover.

 

Adjustment screws at each lift point are used to level the mower deck side-to-side and set the rake angle. The mower deck is fully supported throughout the leveling process, enabling predictable adjustments and precise height measurements.

M and R Series QuikTrak™ Mowers have a spacious operator platform designed to keep operators comfortable and improve stability, while providing storage.

Room to move

Moving is essential for operator ergonomics, so the M and R Series QuikTrak Mowers are equipped with a 24-in. (61-cm) wide foot platform that gives the operator room to vary their stance. The fender-mounted foot holds on R Series Mowers enable an even wider range of stance options.

Smooths out the bumps

The platform is spring loaded to keep bumps from jarring the operator. Large tires help isolate the operator from rough ground as well. R Series Mowers include a rubber mat on the foot platform.

Keeps the operator at center of control

The forward pitch of the new M and R Series leaning pad centers the operator’s core over the vehicles center of rotation. This location has the least centrifugal force, keeping the operator stable and in control. The leaning pad is padded for comfort and bolstered to provide side support to the operator while traversing uneven terrain and during end-of-pass turns. The leaning pad on R Series includes extra bolstering and a color accent.

Traction when you need it

The wide foot platform gives the operator the freedom to shift their weight from side-to-side on uneven terrain. Similarly, the forward-pitched leaning pad allows the operator to lean forward to increase stability or lean rearward to increase traction.

A place for tools and trash

A versatile mesh storage bin is within the operator’s reach and can be used for holding refreshments, tools, or trash.

Overview

The color coded and logically placed controls on M and R Series QuikTrak Mowers are designed to get new operators up to speed quickly. A display panel assists in operating the mower and alerts operators of problems, to reduce downtime and repair costs. The key, choke (carbureted models only), throttle, and power take-off (PTO) switch are located at the operator’s fingertips.

Precise drive controls

Ground speed and direction are easily controlled by moving the two hand-lever hydrostatic drive controls forward or reverse.

• Up to 10 mph (16.1 km/h) forward and 5 mph (8.0 km/h) reverse on M Series Mowers.
• Up to 12 mph (19.3 km/h) forward and 6 mph (9.7 km/h) reverse on R Series Mowers.

Front and rear stationary reference bars stabilize the operator’s hands, which maintains precise control as the mower changes speed or direction. The bars also reduce fatigue from control lever operation.

 

Control levers return to neutral automatically, and a positive neutral-lock holds the control levers in neutral when the park brake is engaged.

Display panel

The M and R Series QuikTrak Mowers are equipped with a display panel that assists in operating the mower, alerts of problems to reduce downtime and repair costs, and provides on-board diagnostics to speed troubleshooting. The display panel includes:

Park Brake

A park brake is provided for parking the vehicle and for transport. It must be engaged to start the machine and should be engaged whenever the machine is not being used. On M and R Series QuikTrak Mowers, the park brake is built into the transaxles, which reduces the effort required to engage the brake.

Height-of-cut adjustment

An easy-to-use height-of-cut system allows the operator to see and adjust the height-of-cut setting from the operator station.

The E and M Series QuikTrak mowers have a 1200-hour or 36-month, whichever comes first, bumper-to-bumper warranty. The R Series mowers have a 1500-hour or 36-month, whichever comes first, warranty. JDLink M Modem

A JDLink M Modem is standard equipment on model year 2024 and newer TerrainCut Front and Wide-Area Mowers.

John Deere Operations Center

The John Deere Operations Center tracks your fleet and provides tools to analyze mower data. The connected features vary by mower model.

Location and status

The JDLink M Modem regularly transmits the location and operational status of each mower in the fleet so you can monitor mowing progress in Operations Center.

• Location history-Display of map with current and past locations of each mower.
• GPS Speed-Maps each mower’s current speed, based on GPS location data, so you can target operator training. GPS speed is only viewable on Apple iOS and Android mobile apps.
• Geofencing-Alerts when a mower enters or exits a prescribed area, for example if the mower has been stolen or an operator entered an area that should not be mowed.
• Curfews-Alerts if the mower is operating outside prescribed times, for example residential areas with early-morning noise restrictions.

Engine hours

The modem regularly transmits the mower’s engine hours to inform maintenance planning and balance use.

• Sync-The mower reports actual engine hours to the Operations Center.
• Key-Engine hours are estimated by monitoring the key switch. Engine hours can be corrected in Operations Center.

Maintenance planner

Factory or custom maintenance plans can be established in Operations Center. Maintenance alerts are sent when engine hours reach maintenance intervals.

Machine Analyzer Tool

On select products, the modem reports the time the mower spent transporting, idling, and working. The Operations Center’s Machine Analyzer tool reports usage data which allows you to analyze operator behavior, identify causes of low productivity, and initiate corrective actions.

Fuel level

On select products, the modem reports the fuel level. On these products, an analysis of fuel consumption is available in the Operations Center Machine Analyzer Tool. Measuring fuel consumption enables you to address causes of excessive fuel use.

Diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs)

On select products, the modem transmits the trouble codes generated by the mower’s control units to the Operations Center. Addressing DTCs can reduce downtime and repair costs. For example, a low-engine oil pressure DTC can indicate an engine is low on oil. Addressing the issue can prevent costly downtime and repairs.

Service Advisor Remote

On select products, John Deere dealers can perform remote diagnostics, software programming, and adjustments without the cost of a service call.

Compatibility

A JDLink M Modem is standard equipment on model year 2024 and newer (SN 110,001-) TerrainCut Front Mowers and model year 2024 and newer (SN 690,001-) TerrainCut Wide-Area Mowers.

 

A JDLink M Modem can be field installed on the commercial mowing products listed below. Field installation attachments simplify modem installation, and include brackets, mounting hardware, harness, and instructions. Field installation requires a JDLink M Modem to be ordered separately. The field installation attachments include a wiring harness therefore the modem should be ordered with the less harness option code.

John Deere provides application-specific Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approved field-installed propane conversion kits for specific John Deere commercial walk-behind mowers, QuikTrak Mowers, and commercial ZTrak™ Mowers. The conversion kits include all components required to convert the engines to operate on propane fuel. Single-tank or dual-tank brackets (depending on the vehicle) are provided for securely holding the propane tank(s) to the vehicle.

Propane tanks are not included.

An optional altitude kit is required when operating at altitudes above 2000 ft (610 m). The operator’s manual with the propane conversion kit provides further details. Parts must be ordered separately through John Deere Parts.

Propane facts:

• Propane is flammable and commonly used as a fuel.
• The molecular formula of propane is C3H8, and it is in the family of liquefied petroleum gases (LP gases). The other LP gases include butane, propylene, butadiene, butylene, isobutylene, and mixtures thereof.
• Propane is commonly available and has proven to be a dependable, safe, economical, and clean-burning fuel. It can be used as household fuel, industrial fuel, and fuel for internal combustion engines. Propane has been used as a fuel since 1910.
• At atmospheric pressure, propane boils at -44°F (-42.2°C), meaning it typically exists as a vapor. However, when contained under pressure, such as in a propane cylinder, it can exist as a liquid.
• Propane is naturally odorless, but includes an additive odorant, usually mercaptan, which gives it a distinct odor.
• Vapor propane is heavier than air, meaning it will settle in low areas such as along the ground or in drains.
