Sunshine in Hammond proudly hosted the 2026 District 7 Meeting of the Louisiana Cattlemen’s Association on May 7, 2026. The event drew an impressive turnout of more than 130 attendees, reflecting the strength and engagement of Louisiana’s beef cattle community.
Guests were welcomed with a social hour beginning at 6:00 p.m., followed by the meeting and meal at 6:30 p.m. Sunshine Quality Solutions sponsored the evening’s meal, demonstrating the company’s deep commitment to supporting Louisiana’s agricultural industry and the cattlemen who drive it.
A highlight of the evening was a special appearance by Louisiana Commissioner of Agriculture and Forestry Dr. Mike Strain, who addressed attendees on the state and federal government’s ongoing efforts in support of the beef industry. Dr. Strain provided an overview of current regulatory and policy initiatives impacting cattle producers, touched on USDA programs aimed at bolstering domestic beef production, and discussed legislative priorities designed to protect the interests of Louisiana’s farming and ranching families. His remarks were well-received by the crowd and sparked lively conversation among producers about the road ahead for the state’s beef sector.
The meeting featured an educational presentation and discussion on the topic of Optimizing Profitability in Your Cattle Operation, led by a distinguished panel of industry professionals. Dr. Justin Roberts of Kentwood Veterinary Clinic, Dr. Matt Greene of Greeneline Angus, and Jonathan Lopinto of Amite Livestock Sales each shared their expertise on maximizing herd performance and farm-level profitability. Key talking points included proper vaccination protocols, castration practices, and other management strategies essential to a healthy and profitable cattle operation.
