Before a packed house of more than 100,000 fans, Louisiana agriculture had its moment in the spotlight.
This past weekend, LSU’s showdown against Louisiana Tech became more than just a rivalry game. It became a stage to celebrate the people who feed and fuel our state. Louisiana FFA and 4-H members were recognized on the field, standing shoulder to shoulder with two farmers who represent the heart of our agricultural community: Dwayne Viator and Jeffery Toups.
For these young FFA and 4-H members, it was a moment they’ll carry with them for years, a chance to be seen, celebrated, and reminded that the work happening in barns, fields, and shops across Louisiana matters to more than just their families and neighbors. It matters to the entire state.
Dwayne Viator and Jeffery Toups have spent their lives working the land, and their presence on the field was a tribute to every farmer who rises before dawn, works through the heat, and carries the weight of feeding others on their shoulders. Recognizing them in front of a stadium full of fans sent a clear message: agriculture isn’t a backdrop to Louisiana life. It is Louisiana life.
Moments like this matter. They remind an entire stadium, and a state, that behind every meal, every harvest, and every acre of Louisiana soil, there are real people, real families, and a next generation ready to carry the torch forward.
To the FFA and 4-H members who stood on that field: thank you for representing agriculture with pride. And to Dwayne and Jeffery: thank you for a lifetime of hard work that too often goes unseen. Louisiana agriculture is proud to call you its own.
